An intraoral camera is a small, pen-sized camera that captures clear, magnified images inside your mouth and shows them on a screen in real time. At Dentistry at Millennium Park, it lets you see exactly what we see, helping us catch issues early and explain your care, comfortably and with no radiation, right here in Chicago's Loop.
An intraoral camera is a small handheld camera, about the size of a pen, that we glide gently around your mouth to capture clear, magnified images of your teeth, gums, and soft tissues. The pictures appear on a screen right beside you, in real time.
It reaches and magnifies areas that are difficult to see during a regular visual exam, like the back of a molar or a hairline crack, so small problems are easier to spot. And because the images are right there on the screen, you get to see your mouth the way we do.
It's completely comfortable and uses no radiation — just a tiny camera and a light. Think of it as a window into your smile that helps us explain exactly what's going on and why any treatment we recommend makes sense.

This simple tool makes a real difference in your care. We use it to:
Note: When you can see a cracked filling or a spot of early decay on the screen for yourself, your care stops being something that happens to you and becomes something you understand and choose.
A close-up look can reveal:
Cracked or chipped teeth
Worn or failing fillings
Early signs of tooth decay
Gum inflammation or recession
Plaque and tartar buildup
Changes in the soft tissues of your mouth

An intraoral camera doesn't replace X-rays — it works alongside them. The camera gives a detailed, radiation-free look at the surfaces of your teeth and your soft tissues, while digital X-rays reveal what's happening beneath the surface and within the bone. Together, they give us a complete picture of your oral health.
It's also a wonderful tool for second opinions and peace of mind. Seeing a clear image for yourself takes the guesswork out of dental care and helps you feel confident in the path forward.

We believe you deserve to understand your own care. Our intraoral camera is part of how we keep things transparent, showing you what we see, explaining what it means, and partnering with you on every decision rather than just telling you what to do.
As a proudly woman-owned, all-female practice in the heart of the Loop, led by a woman of color, we pair modern dentistry with genuine, personal care.

Meet Dr. RanganathanIt captures clear, magnified images inside your mouth so we can spot issues like cracks, early decay, and gum problems, and so you can see exactly what we see. It makes diagnosis more accurate and your care easier to understand.
No, it complements them. The camera shows the surfaces of your teeth and your soft tissues in detail with no radiation, while X-rays reveal what's beneath the surface and in the bone. Used together, they give a complete picture.
It's completely safe and painless. There's no radiation involved; it's simply a small camera with a light that we gently move around your mouth.
Yes, that's the whole idea. The images appear on a screen in real time, and we'll walk through them with you so you understand what's going on and can make informed choices.
We use it whenever a closer look would help, such as examining a specific tooth, checking an old filling, or showing you something we've found. It's a routine part of our thorough, transparent approach to your care.
