Children's dental X-rays are quick, low-radiation images that help us see what's happening beneath the surface of your child's smile, like cavities between baby teeth or how their adult teeth are developing. At Dentistry at Millennium Park, we use gentle digital X-rays only when truly needed, and protect your child every step, right here in Chicago's Loop.
Dental X-rays are images that let us see the parts of your child's mouth a visual exam can't reach, between the teeth, below the gumline, and inside the developing jaw. They're an important part of keeping a growing smile healthy.
We use modern digital X-rays, which capture clear images in seconds using significantly less radiation than older film X-rays. For children, whose smiles are changing quickly, that clear view helps us catch cavities and developmental issues early, when they're easiest and gentlest to treat.
We're also careful and conservative. We only take X-rays when they'll genuinely help your child's care, never just by routine, and we protect your child throughout. More on safety below.

For growing smiles, X-rays help us do more than a visual exam alone. We use them to:
Note: Children's needs vary, so we recommend X-rays based on your child's age, cavity risk, and what we see, not at every single visit.
A quick X-ray can help us see:
Cavities between or inside teeth
Decay forming under an existing filling
How adult teeth are developing beneath the baby teeth
Missing, extra, or impacted teeth
How the jaw and bite are growing
Any signs of infection

Dental X-rays are part of diagnostic care, and dental insurance commonly covers necessary X-rays for children, often alongside their checkup. We're in-network with most major PPOs and will gladly review your family's specific benefits before the visit.
If any further care is ever recommended, we'll explain everything clearly and, when helpful, offer financing through CareCredit and Cherry. No surprises, ever.

Yes. This is the question parents ask us most, and it's a good one. Digital dental X-rays use very low levels of radiation, a small amount compared with many everyday sources, and they're considered very safe for children when used appropriately.
We take your child's safety even further. We follow the principle of using as little radiation as reasonably possible, protect your child with a lead apron and thyroid collar, and only take X-rays when they will genuinely help, tailored to your child's individual needs rather than a fixed schedule. If you ever have questions or concerns, we're always happy to talk them through with you.

Parents want a dental team that's gentle, careful, and honest, especially when it comes to their child's safety. We use modern low-radiation technology, take X-rays only when they truly help, and always take the time to explain what we see and why it matters.
As a proudly woman-owned, all-female practice in the heart of the Loop, led by a woman of color, we bring a caring, personal touch that helps children feel right at home.

They let us see what a visual exam can't, like cavities hiding between baby teeth and how your child's adult teeth are developing. This helps us catch and treat small problems early, before they cause discomfort.
It depends on your child's age and cavity risk — not every visit. Some children need them more often than others, and we'll always recommend only what's helpful for your child.
Not at all. Taking them is quick and completely painless, and your child simply holds still for a moment while we capture the image.
Usually, yes, since they're part of diagnostic care, often covered alongside your child's checkup. We're in-network with most major PPOs and will review your benefits with you.
